Dragons starting being seen on earth around the dinosaur ages, they were mistaked as dinosaurs. they do have their resemblences but they are close to nothing alike. its hard to explain 'why' theyre are different but also its hard to explain 'why' theyre the same.

-dark

Now to fill you in on some of story on each type!

FIRE: fire dragons are usually found in hot places, but not always some live in cold places to hide because normally people/humans think "fire = hot " so they do the opposite of what the average human would think,but some stay in the obvious place because they love danger.

these types of dragons are usally hot tempered but can be cool , it all depends on what they grew up around .

they usally eat meats,mostly red meat but it all depends on what they can find.

most fire dragons are colored,red,orange,or sometimes yellow

WATER: water dragons are usually found in oceans,seas,lakes or anywhere close to big/medium bodies of water , they usually eat fish to closely related land animals. they are usually heavy weight due to the fact they live under water where its cold and their weight is cut in half. these dragons are from blue,white,or black in color.
